Show Mom Some Love

I will celebrating my first real Mother’s Day this year (I say “real” because I think being pregnant last year still made me a mama).  But this year, I’ll actually get to smooch on my baby who turns ONE ten days later.  How a year has gone by already is beyond me.. Anyway, if you’re having a hard time figuring out what to get your mom for Mother’s Day this year, I’ve got you covered!

First, let me ask you this–
What is her favorite thing to do? Or what is she most proud of?

Your answer will help with the next part.

mothers day

If you answered that entertaining is her favorite thing to do, your mom would be considered the hostess. Getting her a new set of flatware or a cheese board would be great for the parties she enjoys hosting.  Also, you could try picking out a new wine for her & her guests! to try.

Answering that she’s most proud of the garden of flowers or vegetables she’s grown would make her the green thumb.  Gardening takes diligence and appreciation, so make sure you do the same when you’re picking her gift.  Ideas would be to get her a birdhouse, or a beautiful watering can or even putting together a set of hand creamgardening gloves and a ring dish would be thoughtful!

Sometimes something you’ve had to do ends up being something you love to do after time.  Cooking for your family could be something your mom learned to love.. & if that’s the case, she’d be considered the cook. I’m sure that a new set of spatulas, a nice cake stand, or salt & pepper mills would make her very happy.

If your answer to the question was that she’s most proud of the family she built, or her favorite thing to do is play with her grand kids, I’d consider her the sentimentalist. Nothing could make her happier than a handmade gift, or a journal to write notes to her grand kids in, or a photo book of you all!  You could do as I did last year and make it a recurring gift–each month I sent my mom a new book filled with pictures of Rhett!

If none of those ideas suit her just right, I’m thinking she may be the busy bee. In that case, she needs to find a way to relax.  Maybe with a new set of pajamas, a luxury beauty product, or even a gift certificate for a massage!

Don’t forget the presentation is important, too! Here are two wrapping papers that I love-roses & dots. Ultimately, finding something meaningful that your mom will enjoy is the best way to show her that you love and appreciate her.. even if that’s just time spent together.  All I want from my baby is a morning snuggle & a few belly laughs throughout the day.

Good luck shopping!

Weekly Menu 16/52

After our crazy busy weekend, the last thing I wanted to do when I woke up this morning was go to the grocery.. so I didn’t.  I sat at the kitchen table and lettered the addresses on Rhett’s birthday invites.  I think they turned out really pretty & I didn’t have any mess-ups–score! So now that I’ve finished those & done my housework, I’m going to relax a little bit and save the grocery trip for once Rhett wakes from his nap.

Here’s what we have planned for the week:

Steaks w/ Sautéed Mushrooms & Baked Potatoes
Thai turkey meatballs (new!)
Avocado, Mozzarella Bruschetta Chicken
Spicy Peanut Noodles
Bleu Cheese Burgers & Roasted Cauliflower

The only recipe new to me is one my friend passed on, so I’m excited to try that! And the other two recipes I’ve linked to I have made before, but have yet to mention here on one of these weekly posts.  Both are amazingly delicious & for sure crowd-pleasers!  Steaks & burgers are also on the menu, but I figured you probably wouldn’t need recipes for those haha.

I’m off to go make myself an iced coffee & sit out on the patio until you-know-who wakes. May your coffee be strong and Monday short!

Just Things

Tomorrow morning we are getting up early to drive up to Ann Arbor to do some shopping & hit the IKEA which is only 30 minutes from there.. I’m so excited! I have my shopping list all ready and can’t wait to finally finish off the patio decor.  Plus, who doesn’t love shopping at IKEA? I’m such a visual person so their strategy definitely works for me. I’ll try to snap some of what we’re up to, so I’d love for you to come join us on snapchat! 👻ashtonrynearson.

spring go-to outfit

Remember those Gemma sandals I mentioned before?! Here’s a link for 25% OFF at Nordstrom!  And if I had to pick one go-to outfit for spring,  it’d be lace-up sandals, a pair of distressed jeans, a white tee, a light gray cardigan & a blush crossbody.

Did you know that 50% of the world’s children are potty trained by 1 year old?  I found that to be incredibly interesting, so I went crazy looking up all you need to do to make it happen! These two books are on my reading list early start potty training and elimination communication.. because hey, I’m all for diaper-less babies!

Raw Apple Cider Vinegar has lots and lots of health benefits, so I recently started adding it to my diet.  The first time I took a shot of it straight up and about puked. Ha!  It was so so sour & awful.  Then I searched for a recipe that would make it taste better.. I settled on a recipe of 2T ACV, 1t honey, 1/3 cup pineapple juice & a dash of cinnamon which makes it edible, but I still have to down it as quick as I can.

This article on self-awareness suggests 12 exercises that can fuel happiness and success.. I’m going to try playing devils advocate with myself! Sounds hard, but I think it could be good for me.

I found what I hope is the perfect neon coral lip! At only $6 it’s worth a try.. this shade is called indie flick, but they have a whole bunch of other pretty options if this one is a little too bright for you.
