…unless you’d rather be off to club bed featuring DJ pillow and mcblankie like me!
After a week of non-stop action, we are looking forward to a few nights of no commitments. That being said, we can’t just stare at each other for 3 days, so we’ll likely put away the Christmas decorations and take our tree to the local recycling drop off. As for NYE, we will be watching the live events from home.. what better way to ring in the New Year than with a bottle of wine, a game of cards, & some good music?! Here’s some inspiration for your countdown from the couch!
Since my mom moved to Nashville, Danny and I have made a habit of staying in for New Years. After many years of going to a big party, it’s a nice change of pace. I really enjoy spending the evening with my main man.. Ahem *men* this year! I’ll be saving this DIY disco ball pinata for next year & those numbers would be a perfect banner to hang. Plus, you’d only have to switch out one number for the next few years!
Here’s to a wonderful start to 2016!
I’ve been thinking a lot about the new year and how I can make 2016 a happier, more productive and less stressful year. Not that this year was all that stressful for me, but adding a child to the mix hasn’t been all rainbows and butterflies.
My biggest resolution is to find happiness in everyday things. I think having a toddler around will help with that, but I’d like to find peace with myself & know that we don’t have to DO something to have a enjoyable day. And in order to keep some ounce of sanity, I need to do one load of laundry per day. Having a few loads to do by the end of the week is daunting and it never ends up completely finished..so if I just stick to doing 1 small load each day, I’ll keep up with it and that’ll save the weekends for doing the towels or sheets. Wearing “grown up” pajamas really just means something other than sweatpants and a tee. I find that on the days I actually wear pajamas, I feel more ready to tackle the day and be productive. And finally, I’d like to do more hand lettering in my spare time. I find it to be very relaxing and something that’s just for my own pleasure. Not to make money from, not to do for other people, just to sit down and be alone with myself doing something I enjoy.
I think we’ll also put together a wish jar on NYE.. It’s just a jar where Danny and I will each write down 6 things we’d like to do in the coming year and on the first of each month we’ll draw from the jar and do it! We’ll have the entire month to execute, just in case it takes some time to plan. I think it’ll be fun and push us to cross off some things from our bucket list! :)
What are your resolutions? I’d love to hear!
The day started with a relaxing morning just the three of us. Rhett opened the present we had wrapped for him under the tree, and papa cooked us pancakes and eggs for breakfast. Rhett went down for his morning nap & a little while later my family started filing in.
Morgan & I exchanged mugs like we do every year.. she came through and got me the golden mug I’d been coveting & I’ve used it every morning since. Then we hung out, played games, and fed Rhett lunch. We got the prime rib in the oven around 4 and started to get the rest of the food on the menu ready. Cut up the vegetables for roasting, wrapped the potatoes in foil, and put out all the appetizers. And of course, made a trip to the store for the one thing we forgot: sour cream. Ha! Gotta have that for the creamy horseradish.
See that striped album on the plate? My nephew got one of the new Polaroid cameras and that album holds the pictures..he told me he needed to know which side was the front, so I laughed when he showed me what he’d written on the cover. That camera is funny though, I assumed it would have produced a much better image, but it still looks like it was taken with a really old Polaroid! And yes, those are gold solo cups on the table. #wefancy
We all took turns taking our pictures under the mistletoe, then sat down to eat our salads while the meat rested out of the oven. Rhett only made it through that before crashing; by then he’d had two days of missed naps and lots of attention from everyone so he was exhausted. Once we finished eating, we played our favorite things game & it turned out great! Of course I didn’t get any pictures of the whole loot, but the table was filled with great stuff. My sister and I went home with 2 out of 3 of each other’s things.. surprise surprise. And the group decided to add stealing to the end of the game, but I think only 2 things ended up getting stolen, so everyone went home happy. It was a great night filled with family and fun.
